Agreement secured for additional pharmacy funding.

Department of Health and Social Care reached an agreement with Community Pharmacy England to provide an additional £617 million for pharmacy services over two years.

What’s in the Deal?

  • NHS pharmacies in England will receive £3.073 billion for core services like prescription dispensing in 2025-26.
  • An extra £215 million will support the Pharmacy First programme, blood pressure checks, and other services.
  • Free emergency contraception (morning-after pill) will be available at all NHS pharmacies, replacing the previous paid system.
  • Pharmacies will have greater flexibility in scheduling their 40 contracted hours to improve efficiency.

The need for additional funding has been a ongoing battle for pharmacies around the country and research by Healthwatch England outlines the negative impact nationally on communities. Find out what Healthwatch England has to say about the news here.
